Business School In A Box - Lesson 1

Welcome to the infamous Business School In A Box Blog version 2.3! I've finally found a stable server to keep you updated on. Anyway, let's jump right in.

Two nights ago, a friend and I were having a couple drinks and I was talking about a huge direct mail promotion I have running right now. I was trying to explain to him the mechanics of how it all works... and how critical certain numbers are. His response was fairly typical for someone whose never owned a biz before:

"Well, as long as you enjoy what you're doing, it doesn't matter how much you make."

Yes, and no.

Listen: The only purpose of any business in the world is to make you money. How much it makes is up to you and you definitely don't need to make a lot if you're uncomfortable with it.

But...

Setting up a business and instantly putting an excuse on the line is just plain stupid!

If you're in business for any reason other than to make money -- no matter how noble your cause -- you really should get out.

Businesses are the ultimate wealth creator. But they have their headaches, especially in the early stages.

So get serious on the first truth in this business school in a box:

You're in business to make money.

If you're just looking for work you could enjoy -- there's plenty of jobs out there that are perfect for you.

If you want to build wealth, make money and enjoy the freedoms that come with owning your own business -- you've got to understand you're in it for those reasons. Nothing else.

Thanks again for reason this first Business School In A Box lesson. Hope you enjoyed it.
